Why Edwards nES/ES and Leybold SOGEVAC? These are industrial single-stage oil-sealed rotary vane families that more closely match the operating class of many Rietschle VC, VCS, and VGD pumps. Edwards RV and E2M pumps are two-stage laboratory and high-vacuum designs and should not be treated as direct substitutes for these industrial models.

Rietschle Maintenance by Pump Type

Use the maintenance approach that matches the pump technology shown on the nameplate.

Oil-Lubricated VC, VCA, VCE, VCS & VGD

  • Check oil level, color, odor, and contamination.
  • Replace oil, oil filters, and exhaust separators at appropriate intervals.
  • Inspect inlet filtration and keep cooling passages clean.
  • Watch for shaft-seal leakage, excessive exhaust mist, heat, or unusual noise.
  • Inspect vanes, valves, bearings, gaskets, and seals during rebuild service.
  • Use the correct oil for the exact model and process.

Dry-Running VTE & VLT

  • Do not add oil to the pumping chamber.
  • Inspect carbon vane length and condition on the recommended schedule.
  • Keep inlet filters, cooling paths, and ventilation openings clean.
  • Prevent abrasive dust and liquid carryover from entering the pump.
  • Investigate declining vacuum, rising temperature, or changing sound promptly.
  • Match replacement vanes and gaskets to the complete model.

Can I replace a Rietschle VC pump with an Edwards or SOGEVAC pump?

Should I compare my Rietschle pump with an Edwards E2M pump?

Usually not for the VC, VCS, or VGD industrial single-stage class. Edwards nES/ES and Leybold SOGEVAC are generally more appropriate comparison families. Edwards E2M and RV pumps are two-stage designs intended for a different operating class.

Do VTE and VLT pumps require vacuum pump oil?
